Welcome to the Back o' The Shop Gallery and Cafe Terrington.
Our first exhibition of 2010 is by local York artist Gemma Watson whos inspiration includes Robert Bechtle, Richard Estes, Edward Hopper and John Constable. "I am interested in capturing that inspiring moment in time, before the surroundings of a scene change. I start by using my own photography to capture the composition and detail of a place. Then I explore the details of the image through the process of realist painting. I want my paintings to have an inviting ideal quality to them, to emphasise that initial inspiring moment". Gemmas exhibition runs from Saturday 6th February through to Saturday 27th February with a preview evening on Friday 5th from 7pm. All welcome as usual.
Following on from Gemma, our guest artist for March is Sheffields Jean Luce and April sees the return of local favourite Sue Slack from Lockton with an exhibition of new work. In May the Backotheshop will be taken over for the month by guest curators Helen and Maggie of The Perfect Find, when they will be showcasing a number of their artists under the exhibition title of "Living Art".
